The book read well as it progressed, but I was disappointed by the climax and resolution. It felt less impactful than it should have been. The stories didn't tie together as closely as I'd wanted, and the overall message didn't land for me.

I'm surprised to be enjoying the Amazon TV series more than the book.

These books have been expectedly simplistic to date. Starfall was a pleasant surprise, bringing a deeper introspection instead of relying upon storybook action. Mr. Strickland proved himself to be an excellent writer, even with early-age fiction. It was a pleasure to read.

Yes, yes, yes, it's a complete rip off of Harry Potter. Even so, Ben has done a great job world building and designing his magic system. I rolled my eyes at first but the story sucked me in and carried me along. I genuinely liked the few main characters, and the writing was pretty strong.

Dialogue among the main, modern characters sounded fairly natural, but the aspects of the story that leaned deeper into fantasy read over-the-top. The tone couldn't find a clear foothold and some of the plot was rushed.

All in all, it was a very fun, quick read. I'll be finishing the series soon.

There novel worked well to carry on the feeling of the first film. I can't speak to its place related to the original pentology and something in me is a little torn on a book of a movie of a book. Still, it may not have had Ang Lee's level of depth and layering, and it relies too heavily on the combat, but it felt a part of the whole. If this were unconnected from anything I imagine one less star would be above.
