I love to read and sometimes write. I'm active on fedi mostly as @tomasino@tilde.zone. I've been using Goodreads for the past bajillion years and will try to transition here. I run cosmic.voyage and a bunch of fun projects like @SolarpunkPrompts@podcast.tomasino.org

No real substance here, just a list of the things that might be helpful and why. I expected at least a passing attempt at the hows of these things. It reads more like a very long blog post.

Audiobook review: The story wasn't particularly unique (Wizardry series, for instance) nor was it particularly well done (characters were flat and not very bright, time travel in the story used for convenience but ignored for conflict). In the end it was the narration that ruined it for me. The male characters were all nerd voices or bad D&D accents. The one female character barely exists and her voice was a painful wispy nonsense. It was hard to get through.

Neal Stephenson: Seveneves (2015, HarperCollins Publishers) 4 stars

Like so many people, I enjoyed the first 2/3rds of this book. I wouldn't say I loved it, for I'm not particularly attached to hard-edged sci-fi like Seveneves. I found the story fascinating and did learn some things about orbital mechanics, but it did drone on and on and I found myself begging for the abridged version more than once.

Once I hit the turning point around the 2/3rd mark, any connection I had with the story that was pulling me along was suddenly gone. I tried for another 50 pages or so to keep it up, but my interest had vanished. This one is a did-not-finish.

Adele Abbott: Witch Is When It All Began (A Witch P.I. Mystery) (Volume 1) (2015, CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform) 3 stars

This was a fun little book, though perhaps not the finest writing. Ms Abbot has a gift with dialogue, but her pacing and story structure could use some work. I enjoyed both the audio and written versions and found it easy and enjoyable to switch between them.
