I understand litRPG holds a lot of appeal to some readers but this was just too much for me. This wasn't just a real world character entering into a fantasy world, it was a gamer entering the video game he was already playing. People have stats and talk about them numerically. Prompts appear and dings signal leveling up. If it weren't for the half-ass introduction I'd say this book is equivalent to watching someone play a game on YouTube.
There's some wish fulfillment in this genre, but this book went way too far. There are whole passages detailing character stats of "NPCs", advancement, and item identification. It's ridiculous.

I love to read and sometimes write. I'm active on fedi mostly as @tomasino@tilde.zone. I've been using Goodreads for the past bajillion years and will try to transition here. I run cosmic.voyage and a bunch of fun projects like @SolarpunkPrompts@podcast.tomasino.org

The plot of this book is a rehash of the first series with characters that are a rehash from the first series. There's nothing new here. Above and beyond that, it's telling a story I really don't care to hear. There was so much potential of what Urth could bring to Dematr, but instead it's a repetitive and preachy criticism of the modern world.

More of the same. I didn't really care about anyone or anything. No need to continue the series.

The reviews are wrong on this one. Just like my complaints of Wise Man's Fear, we have another book about the adventures of The Perfect Warrior. Unlike the other series, we don't need to put up with the arrogance of an autobiography, but we are still presented with a character who has literally "mastered all the skills".
Every challenge is easily overcome. Everyone else is an amateur. Men envy him, women want him, and it is a testament to his perfection that he doesn't notice either.
Just... eyeroll
