I enjoy science fiction works, and some detective stories. Mostly short stories, and mostly works that have entered into the public domain. Don't have a lot of time to read which I'm hoping will change in this new year.

2024 Reading Goal

Success! LeRoy Miller has read 22 of 12 books.

Good short story, not great. It is a hour to hour and half read (at least for me). The first half is fast paced, and somewhat enjoyable. The problem comes in the second half of the story, I'll not spoil it here. But the ending has problems. If you need something fast to read, and is a pretty good story, and you like SCI-FI (old school pre-moon landing) Sci-Fi. Read this, it's not bad. I am going to give it a 3 out of 5 stars, just because I don't think the ending works. Or at least works as it was intended to.

In order to make an old comic book scan a little more reader friendly, I used gimp to copy the panels to individual pages - this took a while (not long for one page) but the comic has 66 pages, with some pages having 5 or 6 panels on the page.

But it does make it easier to read on the eBook reader.

So does anyone know of a way to the process?

Here is the original scan, and the panels I pulled from the page.....

An affordable - The Clara Colour

About half the cost of any of the other color ebook readers on the market - but also smaller then most.

I picked it up because I wanted to read - is that still reading?

The color is really nice, and bight with the front lighting - but the small size still makes reading a comic a little hard. Of course the comics I am reading aren't formatted for eBooks 😞

Still really good deal for a color reader, and I'm happy I got it

Everything I said in my previous comment, and then some. As the story progressed, there is still more tech, that probably is far fetched (at least at this point), and some that is at least somewhat doable now. It just makes the story that much more believable. With only a tiny bit of suspension of believe. It does lean into the spy thriller aspect a bit more, only the main characters aren't really spies - it's just kind of has that feel to it.

The ending was un-expected given the start of the story.
It is a really good story, and I'll give it 4 out of 5 stars.

Wow, so far I'm really liking this story. Some of the stuff/gadgets as described seem like things we have now, security systems, video calling, wrist watches that vibrate and alert you to various things.
Other things seem like they will still be in the far future (if ever), aircars, and aircabs (taxi). Still other things are make this story seem more like a spy thriller. But could maybe be a real thing one day, but probably not the way it's described. I am still pretty much in the setup phase of the story, but because the story leans into a "future" that is really happening. I think it makes it very easy to follow, and a very fun modern story. Hopefully as the story progresses I will feel the same way.
