The High Throne of Erkynland is tottering, its royal family divided and diminished. Queen Miriamele has been caught up in a brutal rebellion in the south and thought to have died in a fiery attack. Great book #3 of the typical fantastic Tad Williams trilogy, which always needs 4 books to finish so another book will be coming.

Tad Williams at his usual best: fantastic beasts, great plot with truely dark anti-protagonists, the screw of the plot is tightened till it screeches, the pace of action is good.

And there aren't that many authors around who keep such a small city of protagonists alive. I only remember George RR Martin and Stephen King who do similarly great in this respect.
